On September 4, 2026, Pow Wow Pitch, an Indigenous-led non-profit organization that hosts Turtle Island’s premier Indigenous Business Pitch Competition for Indigenous entrepreneurs, presented in partnership with RBC and Mastercard, announced Alliah Oldpan, Ermineskin Cree Nation Founder of Skydancermovement, a business based in Edmonton, Alberta, as the 2026 Pow Wow Pitch Youth Semi-Final Winner. Alliah has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Grand Finale for a chance to win $25,000 to grow her business. 

More than 120 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Each received training and mentorship to prepare for their semi-final pitch to the Judges, competing for the chance to advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale. Four Youth Semi-Finalists had the opportunity to pitch their business in one-minute for their chance to win an industry prize and a spot in the finals.

Judges included Cynthia Desjardins, Senior Relationship Manager at RBC; Tash Brown, Director, Product Management at Mastercard; Angelo Daga, Director, Geek Squad Remote Services at Best Buy Canada; and Kelly Walter, Senior Director, Recruitment at Altis Recruitment.

“When I first saw my name announced, I honestly couldn’t believe it. I screamed, started shaking and had to take a moment to process what I was seeing. I thanked Creator for this blessing,” said Alliah Oldpan, Founder of Skydancermovement. “I’ve put so much heart, time and energy into building Skydancermovement, and this reminded me that the work I’m doing matters and that my story and vision are worth sharing. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me and believed in me.”

Alliah Oldpan, Founder of Skydancermovement, is a young entrepreneur from Ermineskin Cree Nation based in Edmonton, Alberta. Having danced powwow since she was in Tiny Tots, Alliah created Skydancermovement to bring Indigenous youth together through powwow dance culture and workshops. Inspired by her own journey of reconnecting with dance and culture, she wants to help young people feel proud of who they are and strengthen their connection to their culture and community.

In her pitch, Alliah shared her vision to bring Skydancermovement workshops to more Indigenous youth and communities. If she wins the $25,000 Grand Prize, she plans to invest in transportation, equipment, and supplies that will allow her to expand her programming. Through this growth, she hopes to create more spaces where Indigenous youth can come together, connect with culture, and feel confident in who they are.

“My advice to other Indigenous entrepreneurs is to believe in your vision, even when you’re still figuring things out. You don’t have to have everything perfectly planned before you start. Your story, your culture and your experiences are strengths. Don’t be afraid to take up space and share what you have to offer” shared Alliah Oldpan.

The judges commended Alliah for her talent, passion, and authenticity, noting the personal journey and deep connection to dance she brought to her pitch. They were inspired by the heart behind her vision and her commitment to creating opportunities for others to experience the same sense of community and cultural connection and belonging that dance has brought to her.

Alongside selecting a winner, the judges also acknowledged the Runner Up for the Youth industry category. Cody McDonald, Founder and Owner of Mayzoon Parisien, was recognized for the creativity and cultural connection he brings to his work. A young Red River Métis creator based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Cody designs clothing, accessories and other pieces that bring together Métis design influences. The judges appreciated his creativity, attention to detail, and the way he is using fashion to explore and share Métis identity and culture.

On September 10th, Pow Wow Pitch, an Indigenous-led non-profit organization that hosts a Turtle Island wide Indigenous Business Pitch Competition for Indigenous entrepreneurs, presented in partnership with RBC and Mastercard, announced Kaleb Montgomery-Reid, the Lower Similkameen Indian Band Founder of Reverence Basketball, a business based in West Kelowna, BC, as the 2025 Pow Wow Pitch Youth Semi-Final Winner. Kaleb has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Grand Finale for a chance to win $25,000 to grow their business.

More than 130 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island (Canada and the United States) were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Each received training and mentorship to prepare for their semi-final pitch to the Judges, competing for the chance to advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale. Five Youth Semi-Finalists had the opportunity to pitch their organizations and community initiatives in one-minute for their chance to win an industry prize and a spot in the finals.

Judges included Kayla Neveu-Gordon, Manager of Accessibility Enablement at RBC; Urvashi Kalson, Manager of Product Integration at Mastercard; Gillian Martin, Category Director at Best Buy Canada; and Destinee Peter, National Indigenous Youth Business Advisory Council Member at NACCA.

Kaleb Montgomery-Reid, founder of Reverence Basketball, is a proud Indigenous coach, mentor, and player development specialist committed to supporting youth and athletes through empowerment, high-standard training rooted in community values. Based in the Okanagan, Kaleb blends basketball methodology learned from elite trainers with mentorship and accessibility, especially for athletes in smaller towns who lack consistent access to elevated resources. Through Reverence Basketball, he offers personalized coaching, structured memberships, film breakdowns, and take-home workouts so that growth continues beyond the gym. Reverence focuses on fostering discipline, legacy, and character alongside skill.

In his pitch, Kaleb shared plans to invest in Reverence Basketball by building an athlete media library to showcase and promote those who go through his programs, conducting specialized skills development and training workshops, and growing his mentorship program to support youth on and off the court. He emphasized offering resources to underserved and remote communities, creating free or subsidized spots for Indigenous youth, and ensuring mentorship opportunities include honorariums and leadership for community members. Through these efforts, Kaleb aims to expand the impact of Reverence Basketball, raising visibility for emerging athletes and creating sustainable pathways for success and belonging.

“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that your story is your strength,” shared Kaleb. “I started Reverence because I knew what it felt like to grow up without access to high-level training or guidance. My advice to other Indigenous entrepreneurs is to lean into what makes your journey unique, your community, your roots, and your perspective are powerful assets that no one else can replicate.”

The judges appreciated Kaleb’s inspiring pitch, clear vision, and dedication to supporting youth through mentorship and guidance. They were especially impressed by his commitment to community impact and his thoughtful plan for funding, noting the strong potential of Reverence Basketball to create meaningful opportunities for young athletes.

On September 13th, Pow Wow Pitch, an Indigenous-led non-profit organization that hosts a Turtle Island wide Indigenous Business Pitch Competition for Indigenous entrepreneurs, presented in partnership with RBC, Shopify and Mastercard Canada, announced Isabelle Dabbs, the Native Hawaiian and Cherokee Founder of Witch’s Brew Nutrients, a business based in Kailua, HI, USA as the 2024 Pow Wow Pitch Innovation Semi-Final Winner. Isabelle has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Grand Finale for a chance to win $25,000 to grow her business.

More than 300 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island (Canada and the United States) applied to Pow Wow Pitch this year for their chance to win cash prizes and advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale. From the 300 applicants, 100 were selected as Semi-Finalists and provided with training and mentorship to prepare for their semi-final pitch to the Judges.

Last Friday, four Youth Semi-Finalists had the opportunity to pitch their organizations and community initiatives in one-minute for their chance to win an industry prize and advance as a finalist.

Judges included Chad Garlow, Senior Manager of Indigenous Peoples Development Program at RBC; Johannes Valdes, Senior Social Impact Manager at Shopify; Imtiaz Qureshi, Manager Deal Management at Mastercard Canada; Sara Aghvami, Director of Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Belonging at Best Buy Canada; and Pamela Devonshire, Business Development Manager of ecommerce and Parcels at Canada Post.

“I’m hoping to build and market my business, help communities form a deeper connection to nature, and revive ideas of sustainability and care for our aina (land) all across our country.,” shared Isabelle Dabbs, Founder of Witch’s Brew Nutrients. “There’s a lot that goes into starting a business. You’re able to learn things about yourself and grow as an individual, and that’s what makes starting and running a business so special. All I can say to other Indigenous entrepreneurs is to remember that no idea is too big or too small, and so long as you stay determined anything is possible.”

Witch’s Brew Nutrients is a new, eco-friendly approach to the average plant fertilizer that uses all natural ingredients and traditional knowledge to help plants flourish. Isabelle and her father came up with the idea to find an all natural solution to regular fertilizer that normally contains chemicals and additives that degrades soil quality. Isabelle’s mission is to provide a sustainable alternative to farmers, gardeners, and those looking to lead a more sustainable life through horticulture.

Isabelle pitched to win funds to expand her small production into a larger scale to provide products across the island of Oahu and eventually into the mainland of the US to help more communities. Isabelle hopes to achieve this goal by purchasing the necessary machinery, bottles, and packaging to scale up production of her liquid fertilizer. She hopes to inspire other young Indigenous entrepreneurs to take on challenges and try something new.

“I’d like to thank my 8th grade Agriculture teacher, for always supporting me and getting me into this business in the first place, thank you Ms.Espie!” expressed Isabelle. “It was such a surreal and emotional moment when I found out I was moving forward, but I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me so far and gave me the opportunity to be able to do this.”

The judges congratulate Isabelle for a job well done in her pitch and for clearly communicating how her passion for nature can promote ecological balance and inspire Indigenous youth.

Simon Monteith has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Finals for a chance to win $25,000 to grow his business.

More than 2,000 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Canada and the United States applied to Pow Wow Pitch this year for their chance to win cash prizes and advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Finals. From the 2,000 applicants, 130 were selected as Semi-Finalists and provided with training and mentorship to prepare for their semi-final pitch to the Judges.

Last night, Sunshine Tenasco, Founder of Pow Wow Pitch, emceed the action-packed program, where the five Youth Semi-Finalists had the opportunity to pitch their budding businesses and community initiatives in one minute for their chance to win.

Judges included Tracy Antoine, Senior Director of Indigenous Programs and Policies at RBC; Kyle Brennan Shàwinipinesì, Build Native Program Manager at Shopify; Bea Jimenez, Senior Specialist of Product Management and Product Owner at Mastercard; Noah Wilson, Senior Business Development Manager at Futurpreneur; and Sarah Aghvami, Director of Best Buy Health at Best Buy Canada. 

“I had lots of fun last year with Pow Wow Pitch and I wanted to try it again,” said Simon Monteith, Creator of Simon the Scientist. “Pow Wow Pitch gave me a lot of knowledge and ideas to help my business get a kick start. The competition also helped me get into the news and increased my outreach and opportunities. I really enjoyed how nice everyone in the Pow Wow Pitch community is!”

Simon Monteith, the ten-year-old, Opaskwayak Cree, is the online creator behind Simon the Scientist. Simon began sharing science experiments at home in 2020 and since then has created the social media presence of Simon the Scientist known across Turtle Island. He is inspiring Indigenous youth through his science experiments, live streams, and educational videos. Simon plans to expand the impact of Simon the Scientist by incorporating merchandise with designs from Indigenous artists.

Cambria Wichmann, Founder of Resilience Rising, was honoured as the Runner Up for the Youth Semi-Final. In addition, the judges also provided an Honourable Mention to Kiera Tootoosis, Founder of Bear Hugs. 

In addition, Pow Wow Pitch also announced the recipients of the 2023 Tech-4-Youth Technology Grants, in partnership with Best Buy Canada, to nine Indigenous youth. All youth pitchers and several youth Alumni of Pow Wow Pitch, were announced to receive free tech from Best Buy to support them in moving their businesses forward. On September 14th, Pow Wow Pitch, North America’s premier pitch competition and non-profit organization supporting emerging Indigenous entrepreneurs, awarded 9 technology grants for young Indigenous entrepreneurs through the Tech-4-Youth program supported by Best Buy Canada.

Last year, Pow Wow Pitch and Best Buy launched the Tech-4-Youth program, offering essential technology to young Indigenous entrepreneurs. This year, Best Buy upped its involvement by becoming the main sponsor for the Pow Wow Pitch Youth competition, where youth have one minute to pitch their businesses for cash prizes. Additionally, Best Buy expanded their tech contributions to include young entrepreneurs from previous years. 

The 2023 recipients of the Tech-4-Youth grants are between 9 and 18 years of age and come from across Canada. Their entrepreneurial ventures span science education, snack delivery, counseling centers, graphic design, equestrian services, beading, learning centers, teddy bear crafting, and powwow dancing lessons.

Meet the 2023 Tech-4-Youth Recipients:

Simon Monteith, the Founder of Simon the Scientist from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, residing in Winnipeg, MB, provides Youtube online learning for kids, explaining science from an Indigenous perspective. Simon is receiving an Apple iPhone 14, OtterBox Case, Gimbal Stabilizer, Selfie Ring Light Tripod and an Apple MacBook Air to support him with video production for his educational videos.

Riel Migwans Beam, Owner for Riel’s Variety, from M’Chigeeng, ON is on a mission to provide “the best snacks the planet can provide”. Riel delivers his snacks to classmates at Manitoulin Secondary School and through his website, he ships worldwide! Riel is receiving an Apple iPhone 14 Pro and OtterBox Case to support him with keeping up with business orders and mobility. 

Cambria Wichmann, Founder of Resilience Rising from Simpcw First Nation, who lives in Abbotsford, BC, has an idea for developing a centre for at-risk-youth to access Indigenous counsellors, programming, and a safe space to learn and play. Cambria is receiving an Apple iPhone 14, OtterBox Case, and Acer Aspire Laptop to support her to set up a website, organize her business, and to improve efficiency when working with collaborators.

Taren Cardinal, a striving graphic designer and YouTuber from the Plains Cree First Nation, is looking to take his love for code to the next level to create games. Taren is receiving an Acer Nitro Gaming Laptop, a Numark Party Mix II DJ Sound Board and a Blue Yeti Game Streaming Kit with Mic to support him with his production and to improve his communication with others. 

Cadence Cotter, Owner and Founder of Manes and Reins Equestrian Co., who is Métis from Georgian Bay, Ontario, has built a subscription box for equestrian lovers like her, that include brushes, hangers and signs. Cadence is receiving an Apple iPad, OtterBox Case and Apple Pencil to support her with being able to independently design her own products and manage her online Shopify store.

Eleanora Martin, is from the Haisla Nation, operating from Surrey, BC. Eleanora creates Indigenous beaded earrings and accessories and wants to start offering classes on beading. Eleanora is receiving a Square Reader and Canon Pixma Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer & Ink to help her create and sell new designs.

Keira Tootoosis, from Onion Lake Cree Nation, who livesSaskatoon, SK, is creating memorial teddy bears with voice boxes for the recordings of voices and loving messages from loved ones who have passed on. Keira is receiving an Acer Aspire Laptop to support her with receiving custom orders. 

Aurora Lynn Cardinal, is from the Saddle Lake Cree Nation and lives in Edmonton, AB. Aurora offers powwow dancing lessons and regalia rentals to help make traditional clothing more accessible to those learning to dance. Aurora is receiving an Apple iPhone 14, OtterBox Case and an Acer Aspire Laptop to support her with self-made advertisement production and to help her record dancing videos at powwows. 

Ruby Daniels, is the co-owner and operator of the student-run company, 3R Innovative Imaging from One Arrow First Nation, Saskatchewan. Cadence Cotter, just 12 years old, is not only a passionate equestrian but also the proud Métis owner of Manes and Reins Equestrian Co based in Linwood, Ontario. Her entrepreneurial journey began out of necessity. “To be able to afford extra lessons on my pony and to be able to show,” Cadence reveals, she had to think out of the box. With her mother’s laser business as a backdrop, Cadence inquired, “Were there things I could make that could help me pay for more riding lessons and show passes?”

Today, Manes and Reins Equestrian Co. offers custom products for equestrians and their horses. What began with stall signs evolved into a line of ribbon holders and has now expanded to a line of Ojibway Spirit Horse-themed items. Speaking about her journey, Cadence says, “I’ve been doing this for almost three years… Last weekend I talked to [a local store] and they agreed to carry them!”

But this is not just a business for Cadence; it’s a mission. She donates a portion of her sales to barns aiming to resurrect the endangered Ojibway Spirit Horse Breed. Her latest line features these majestic beasts, “I am most proud of my new line of Ojibway Spirit Horse keychains, necklaces, and earrings.”

Navigating the business world at such a young age is not without its challenges. Cadence admits, “I have a hard time talking to stores… I get nervous and don’t always know what to say.” Yet, she remains undeterred, with the steady support of her family and mentors. Eddy Paul from Futupreneur and Sergio Islas from Best Buy, both mentors to Cadence, emphasize the ‘social enterprise’ aspect of her venture. Sergio especially advised her to highlight her age, proving that the youth can indeed be trailblazers.

Community, according to Cadence, is at the heart of her entrepreneurial journey. Drawing inspiration from her mother’s work ethic and dedication to the community, Cadence believes in originality and creating a positive impact. “That whatever I do needs to positively impact my community, and my community is the horse world and the Indigenous community so doing both,” she says.

Her advice to budding entrepreneurs is a blend of her own journey and the teachings of her mentors. “Go to your community for support,” Cadence emphasizes.

Set to support more than 2,500 Indigenous entrepreneurs in 2022 with mentorship, funding, training, marketing and a safe and trusted community of support, this new partnership will support Pow Wow Pitch to scale support for Indigenous youth through funding, mentorship, education and technology grants. 

As a Seed Partner, Best Buy is backing the Youth Category of Pow Wow Pitch and will be providing mentors to support Indigenous youth, age 19 and under, to prepare for their pitch. Best Buy will also adjudicate the Youth Category and help determine the $1,000 Youth Prize winner, who will move on to compete at the Grand Finale for $25,000.

As part of the Partnership, Indigenous youth from across Canada starting up businesses can visit powwowpitch.org/tech-4-youth to submit a ‘Request for Tech’ to ask for the technology they need to start and run their businesses. Pow Wow Pitch and Best Buy will review and assess the requests to support Indigenous youth to take action on their dreams.

On Saturday evening, Pow Wow Pitch, North America’s premier pitch competition for Indigenous entrepreneurs, presented in partnership with RBC, Shopify and Facebook, announced 15-year-old Métis (Cree and Anishnabe) Founder of Ohana Made Designs Telia Lafontaine as the 2021 Pow Wow Pitch Youth Winner.

Telia has won $1,000 and has advanced to the Finals along with siblings Ruby Mae Daniels and Lee Edna Daniels, the 14-year-old team members of ‘3R Innovative Imaging’ from One Arrow First Nation in Saskatchewan. The three young entrepreneurs are advancing to the Finals for a chance to win $25,000 to grow their businesses.

This Summer, 1,642 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island (Canada, the United States and Mexico) submitted one-minute video pitches of their businesses to win funds and support. In August, Pow Wow Pitch announced the Semi-Finalists and paired them with mentors to refine their business pitches in preparation for their presentation to the judges. 

On Saturday, young Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island pitched to a panel of judges, including RBC Vice President of Real Estate and Construction Services Carla Woodward; Shopify Senior Lead of Community and Underrepresented Entrepreneurs Brandon Davenport; NACCA National Program Manager Kevin Rose, Square Small Business and Community Advocate Martin Guerrero; and, Pow Wow Pitch Alumni and Owner of Sequoia Soaps Michaelee Lazore.

Pow Wow Pitch’s Founder Sunshine Tenasco announced the judges’ selection of the entrepreneurs advancing to the Finals and the Youth Winner. 

Telia Lafontaine is the Co-Founder of Ohana Made Designs and the 2021 Pow Wow Pitch Youth Winner. Ohana Made Designs is a small handmade jewelry business that creates accessory pieces influenced by Telia’s Métis and Native Hawaiian cultures. Telia and her sisters work together on the business, each contributing to the creation of the jewelry.

“I applied for Pow Wow Pitch because it was the perfect opportunity for someone like me, an Indigenous youth entrepreneur,” said Telia Lafontaine. “So far, we have just grown Ohana with the support of family, but Pow Wow Pitch has shown me that there really is an ‘ohana’, a community of mentors and friends to network with and support me. With the prize funds, I am creating a professional website to feature and sell my products and purchasing more supplies so my sisters and I can work more efficiently (and keep up with schoolwork while building the business).”

Also moving onto the Finals as runner-ups are Ruby Mae Daniels and Lee Edna Daniels, representing ‘3R Innovative Imaging’ (re-use, re-invent, re-cycle), a youth business owned and operated by a group of 15 grade 5 to grade 9 students from One Arrow First Nation. The business takes cabinet doors and wood destined for the landfill and turns them into beautiful pieces of Indigenous artwork sold and featured in gift stores across Saskatchewan.

“Our goal in applying for Pow Wow Pitch is to motivate, inspire and empower other Indigenous youth to create their own business and to have the same opportunities that we have had,” said Ruby Mae Daniels. “If we win at the Finals, we will build a website, launch a social media presence, and create a kit with supplies and instructions to send to as many First Nations communities across Turtle Island as possible so other youth can do what we are doing too and benefit from business and entrepreneurship.”
