On September 8, 2026, Pow Wow Pitch, an Indigenous-led non-profit organization that hosts Turtle Island’s premier Indigenous Business Pitch Competition for Indigenous entrepreneurs, presented in partnership with RBC and Mastercard, announced Danielle Boyer, Anishinaabe of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Founder and CEO of The STEAM Connection, a business based in Troy, Michigan, USA, as the 2026 Pow Wow Pitch Technology Semi-Final Winner. Danielle has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Grand Finale for a chance to win $25,000 to grow her business. 

More than 120 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Each received training and mentorship to prepare for their semi-final pitch to the Judges, competing for the chance to advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale. Nine Technology Semi-Finalists had the opportunity to pitch their businesses in one minute for their chance to win an industry prize and a spot in the finals.

Judges included Sydney Baldwin, Senior Commercial Relationship Manager at RBC; Shrutika Gupta, Director, Product Development at Mastercard; and Edgard Cruz, National Indigenous Youth Business Advisory Council member at NACCA.

Danielle Boyer, Founder and CEO of The STEAM Connection, is an Anishinaabe robotics inventor, educator, and advocate who founded the organization in 2019 to make technology education more accessible to young people. The STEAM Connection designs, manufactures, and distributes free robotics and technology resources, with a focus on Indigenous youth. Danielle’s work also includes SkoBots, wearable robots created to support Indigenous language learning, combining robotics and technology with community knowledge and language revitalization. 

In her pitch, Danielle shared that one of her biggest challenges is keeping up with the growing demand for her robotics resources from Tribal communities and schools. If she wins the $25,000 Grand Prize, she plans to expand The STEAM Connection’s manufacturing capacity, allowing her to produce more robots and get them into the hands of more communities and young people who are waiting for them.

The judges commended Danielle for her innovative approach to technology and the work she is doing to make robotics and STEAM education more accessible for Indigenous youth. They were impressed by how The STEAM Connection brings together technology, education, and Indigenous knowledge, and by Danielle’s vision for using technology to support the next generation.

Alongside selecting a winner, the judges also recognized the Runner Up for the Technology industry category. Joseph Morningstar, Mississauga First Nation Founder and Developer of Empower App was recognized for creating a practical technology solution designed to support communities during emergencies and crisis situations. Judges were moved by the heart behind his work and the ways Empower App is supporting community preparedness, coordinating community members and accommodations, and helping communities be ready when they are needed most. They celebrated Joseph for putting technology into action in service of community care and supporting people on the ground when it matters most.

On September 14, 2026, Pow Wow Pitch, an Indigenous-led non-profit organization that hosts Turtle Island’s premier Indigenous Business Pitch Competition for Indigenous entrepreneurs, presented in partnership with RBC and Mastercard, announced Cole Sanderson, Sturgeon Lake First Nation Founder of North Wrestle, a business based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, as the 2026 Pow Wow Pitch People’s Choice Semi-Final Winner. Cole has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Grand Finale for a chance to win $25,000 to grow his business.

More than 120 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Each received training and mentorship to prepare for their Semi-Final pitch to the Judges, competing for the chance to advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale.

As part of the competition, Pow Wow Pitch invited the public to vote for their favourite entrepreneur to win the People’s Choice Prize as part of a campaign to showcase, celebrate, and rally for the Semi-Finalists. This year, more than 4,000 people from across Turtle Island cast their votes for the entrepreneur that they wanted to see make it to the Grand Finale.

Shilo Cote, Owner and Creator of Quality Quills, received the highest overall number of People’s Choice votes, with 411 votes. Shilo had already secured her place in the Grand Finale as the Fashion Semi-Final Winner, allowing the People’s Choice opportunity to advance another Semi-Finalist to the Grand Finale. 

Cole received 300 votes and was selected as the 2026 People’s Choice Semi-Final Winner, earning the $1,000 prize and a place in the Grand Finale.

“I felt a lot of relief and gratitude,” said Cole Sanderson, Founder of North Wrestle. “I never had a doubt, because I know how strong my community is behind me. I want to thank my friends and family, and the entire Canadian wrestling community for showing up and voting. I want to thank my home, Sturgeon Lake First Nation. I want to thank my mentor, for believing in me, helping me with my pitch, and helping me see this through. And I want to thank everyone who sent kind messages throughout this process, and everyone who believed in me. I wouldn’t be here without all of you.”

Cole Sanderson, Founder of North Wrestle, is a Cree entrepreneur, former Team Canada wrestler and wrestling advocate based in Saskatchewan. Through North Wrestle, Cole is building a Canadian wrestling media platform designed to give athletes greater visibility and bring more attention to the sport through event coverage, photography, video, social media and rankings.

Since launching, North Wrestle has grown into a national platform, covering wrestling tournaments across Canada and reaching millions of viewers while showcasing athletes and their achievements.

Cole shares his vision in his pitch is to build North Wrestle into a sustainable national platform that not only tells the stories of Canadian wrestlers, but also creates new opportunities for athletes, coaches and wrestling communities. By expanding its event coverage, media production and national ranking system, North Wrestle aims to help grow the sport and inspire the next generation of Canadian wrestlers.

“Doing hard things is tough, and it will be scary,” shared Cole. “Fear has always been a big part of my life. I wanted to start earlier, but fear held me back. I learned that fear never really goes away, you just learn to move with it. My advice is to face the fear and start anyway. The hardest part is starting. Once you start, just keep going.”

Shilo has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Grand Finale for a chance to win $25,000 to grow her business.

More than 120 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Each received training and mentorship to prepare for their semi-final pitch to the Judges, competing for the chance to advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale. Seven Fashion Semi-Finalists had the opportunity to pitch their businesses in one-minute for their chance to win an industry prize and a spot in the finals.

Judges included Tara Brown, Regional Vice President at RBC; Allyson Goodman, Senior Manager, Operations, Transformation Management Office at Aritzia; and Trisha Pitura, Co-Owner and Creative Director at MINI TIPI.

“I was in disbelief at first. There was the initial shock, followed by big smiles all around,” said Shilo Cote, Owner and Creator of Quality Quills. “It was such an exciting and meaningful moment for me. It reminded me that all of the hard work, learning and courage it took to put myself and Quality Quills out there were worth it. It gave me even more confidence to keep going, continue learning and see just how far I can take Quality Quills.”

Shilo Cote, Owner and Creator of Quality Quills, is an Algonquin and Odawa artist from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg who has been creating jewelry for more than 20 years. Through Quality Quills, Shilo creates handcrafted jewelry using ethically sourced porcupine quills alongside materials including semi-precious stones, crystals, shells, antler and bone. Her work brings natural materials and Indigenous artistry together to create distinctive, wearable pieces.

In her pitch, Shilo shared that winning the $25,000 Grand Prize would help her grow Quality Quills and reach more customers. She plans to expand her website and invest in additional tools and materials to support her work. The funding would also help cover vendor and travel costs, giving her more opportunities to bring Quality Quills to markets and events.

“Believe in yourself and in what you have to offer. It can be easy to doubt yourself, especially when you are starting something new, but your skills, knowledge, culture, creativity and lived experiences are strengths,” shared Shilo. “Stay true to who you are, take your time, celebrate the small wins and keep moving forward.”

The judges commended Shilo for the creativity and craftsmanship behind Quality Quills and her ability to transform natural materials into distinctive pieces of wearable art. They were impressed by the care that goes into her work and the way she has built a business around her artistry and connection to culture.

The judges appreciated the purpose behind the brand and Quinn’s approach to creating clothing that gives people another way to carry and celebrate their culture.

Shyanne has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Grand Finale for a chance to win $25,000 to grow her business.

More than 120 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island (Canada and the United States) were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Each received training and mentorship to prepare for their semi-final pitch to the Judges, competing for the chance to advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale.

The Pow Wow Pitch Alumni Choice was created to foster a culture of giving back, mentorship and community support among Indigenous entrepreneurs. Following the 2026 Semi-Finals, the Pow Wow Pitch Alumni Judges reviewed the pitches of the Runner-Up Semi-Finalists and selected the entrepreneur they believed had the strongest potential in the Grand Finale, giving them another opportunity to advance and compete for the grand prize.

The judging panel featured four Pow Wow Pitch Alumni: Trisha Pitura, Co-Owner and Creative Director of MINI TIPI; Jordan Smith, Founder of Renterii; Cora Kavyaktok, Owner of Little Inuk Photography and Inuk Gold Clothing; and Lisa Vicaire, Founder of Algonquin Acres.

“When I received the email, I started crying because I realized I had been given a second chance. I’m truly shocked, thankful and honoured to be announced as the Alumni Choice Semi-Final Winner,” said Shyanne Yellowbird, Founder of mîmîNîsak. “After placing as the Runner Up in the Consumer Products & Retail category, this was such a beautiful, unexpected surprise. Shyanne Yellowbird, Founder of mîmîNîsak, is a multidisciplinary artist and storyteller from Samson Cree Nation. Through mîmîNîsak, Shyanne is creating a line of dolls inspired by the Cree Little People, bringing Cree stories, teachings and imagination into a product created for children and families. Each character is designed to encourage connection to culture and introduce Indigenous representation into the toys children grow up with.

Shyanne first joined Pow Wow Pitch in 2025, when she won the Startup Semi-Final with mîmîNîsak. She returned in 2026 with a stronger pitch and significant progress in her business, earning Runner Up in the Consumer Products & Retail Semi-Final before being selected by Pow Wow Pitch Alumni to advance to the Grand Finale as the 2026 Alumni Choice Semi-Final Winner.

In her pitch, Shyanne shared that winning the $25,000 Grand Prize would help her strengthen the foundation of mîmîNîsak as she continues bringing the dolls to market. She plans to use the funding to reduce manufacturing debt, cover legal and operational costs, and invest in marketing to introduce mîmîNîsak to more families and customers.

The judges congratulated Shyanne on the progress she has made with mîmîNîsak since her first Pow Wow Pitch journey in 2025. They were impressed by how she has continued developing her idea into a growing business and by the creativity and cultural significance behind her products. Her return with a stronger pitch and clear progress demonstrated her commitment to continuing to build mîmîNîsak and bring her vision to life.

Stephanie has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Grand Finale for a chance to win $25,000 to grow her business.

More than 120 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Each received training and mentorship to prepare for their semi-final pitch to the Judges, competing for the chance to advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale. Ten Startup Semi-Finalists had the opportunity to pitch their business ideas in one-minute for their chance to win an industry prize and a spot in the finals.

Judges included Riley Bonshor, Relationship Manager Intern, Commercial Financial Services at RBC; Ruchie Raj Kumar, Manager, Product Management at Mastercard; and Holly Atecoutay, Head, Inclusive Impact & Director, Indigenous & Northern Entrepreneurs at Futurpreneur.

“I was honestly surprised, excited and really proud. Fin & Feather is still a very new business, and I’ve put so much into getting it off the ground in a short amount of time,” said Stephanie King, Founder and Owner of Fin & Feather. “Winning my Semi-Final category felt like validation that I’m building something people believe in and that all of the long days, travelling, learning and figuring things out as I go are leading somewhere.”

Stephanie King, Founder and Owner of Fin & Feather, is an entrepreneur from Timiskaming First Nation building a new food business in East Gwillimbury, Ontario. Drawing on 20 years of experience in the food service industry, Stephanie launched Fin & Feather after an injury forced her to rethink her career and create something of her own. Serving barbecue, dirty sodas, and loaded brownie cups at powwows and festivals, Fin & Feather has quickly grown from a new idea into a busy event-based business with plans to continue expanding.

In her pitch, Stephanie shared that winning the $25,000 Grand Prize would help her invest in cold storage and faster equipment, allowing Fin & Feather to serve larger crowds and work toward operating year-round. As the business grows, she also plans to create paid, hands-on opportunities for Indigenous youth to join her along the powwow trail and gain experience working in a growing business.

“Don’t wait until everything is perfect before you start. I definitely didn’t have everything figured out when I started Fin & Feather. A lot of it has been learning by doing, listening to customers, making changes and trying again. Starting can be scary, but you learn so much once you actually put your idea out into the world. Believe in what you’re creating, but also be willing to adapt” shared Stephanie King.

The judges commended Stephanie for bringing her years of food service experience into a new business with a clear vision for growth and a commitment to creating opportunities for Indigenous youth.

John Hawke, Founder of Zaasaakwe, the judges appreciated his vision for creating an Indigenous news and culture broadcast that provides space for grassroots stories and perspectives. Through Zaasaakwe, John is training and employing local storytellers to share community voices, while building a model supported by radio subscriptions, advertising and sponsorships with plans to expand across Ontario.

On September 4, 2026, Pow Wow Pitch, an Indigenous-led non-profit organization that hosts Turtle Island’s premier Indigenous Business Pitch Competition for Indigenous entrepreneurs, presented in partnership with RBC and Mastercard, announced Alliah Oldpan, Ermineskin Cree Nation Founder of Skydancermovement, a business based in Edmonton, Alberta, as the 2026 Pow Wow Pitch Youth Semi-Final Winner. Alliah has won $1,000 and is advancing to the Grand Finale for a chance to win $25,000 to grow her business. 

More than 120 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Each received training and mentorship to prepare for their semi-final pitch to the Judges, competing for the chance to advance to the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale. Four Youth Semi-Finalists had the opportunity to pitch their business in one-minute for their chance to win an industry prize and a spot in the finals.

Judges included Cynthia Desjardins, Senior Relationship Manager at RBC; Tash Brown, Director, Product Management at Mastercard; Angelo Daga, Director, Geek Squad Remote Services at Best Buy Canada; and Kelly Walter, Senior Director, Recruitment at Altis Recruitment.

“When I first saw my name announced, I honestly couldn’t believe it. I screamed, started shaking and had to take a moment to process what I was seeing. I thanked Creator for this blessing,” said Alliah Oldpan, Founder of Skydancermovement. “I’ve put so much heart, time and energy into building Skydancermovement, and this reminded me that the work I’m doing matters and that my story and vision are worth sharing. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me and believed in me.”

Alliah Oldpan, Founder of Skydancermovement, is a young entrepreneur from Ermineskin Cree Nation based in Edmonton, Alberta. Having danced powwow since she was in Tiny Tots, Alliah created Skydancermovement to bring Indigenous youth together through powwow dance culture and workshops. Inspired by her own journey of reconnecting with dance and culture, she wants to help young people feel proud of who they are and strengthen their connection to their culture and community.

In her pitch, Alliah shared her vision to bring Skydancermovement workshops to more Indigenous youth and communities. If she wins the $25,000 Grand Prize, she plans to invest in transportation, equipment, and supplies that will allow her to expand her programming. Through this growth, she hopes to create more spaces where Indigenous youth can come together, connect with culture, and feel confident in who they are.

“My advice to other Indigenous entrepreneurs is to believe in your vision, even when you’re still figuring things out. You don’t have to have everything perfectly planned before you start. Your story, your culture and your experiences are strengths. Don’t be afraid to take up space and share what you have to offer” shared Alliah Oldpan.

The judges commended Alliah for her talent, passion, and authenticity, noting the personal journey and deep connection to dance she brought to her pitch. They were inspired by the heart behind her vision and her commitment to creating opportunities for others to experience the same sense of community and cultural connection and belonging that dance has brought to her.

A young Red River Métis creator based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Cody designs clothing, accessories and other pieces that bring together Métis design influences. The judges appreciated his creativity, attention to detail, and the way he is using fashion to explore and share Métis identity and culture.

More than 120 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Eight Creative Semi-Finalists had the opportunity to pitch their businesses in one-minute for their chance to win an industry prize and a spot in the finals.

Through Tyler’s Styling Studio, she offers personalized styling services designed to help clients feel more confident in what they wear and develop a style that works for their lifestyle. Her services include colour analysis, closet edits and organization, personal shopping, digital lookbooks, and virtual styling, allowing her to work with clients both locally and beyond Polson.

As she looks ahead, Tyler is continuing to invest in both her skills and the growth of Tyler’s Styling Studio. She is currently completing an online certification in Personal Styling and Color Analysis and plans to use her $1,000 Semi-Final prize, alongside her own savings, to purchase a dedicated business laptop, upgrade her website and strengthen its SEO. She also plans to make more of her services available virtually, allowing Tyler’s Styling Studio to reach clients beyond her local area.

Dana Swart, Owner of Trailhead Bread, is a Red Seal Baker and graduate of Baking and Pastry Arts who has spent years working in professional kitchens and sourdough bakeries. Based in Crowsnest Pass, Trailhead Bread specializes in handcrafted organic sourdough and celebration cakes, incorporating Alberta-grown flour, local ingredients, and regional flavours wherever possible. Dana is now taking the next step in the business by opening a dedicated bakery space and expanding Trailhead Bread into additional retail locations.

In her pitch, Dana shared that winning the $25,000 Grand Prize would help her grow Trailhead Bread while creating more opportunities to bring people together through food. She plans to hire additional help and host community events, while also exploring the opportunity to grow produce in the neighbouring garden for use in the bakery.

It’s easy to feel like you need to do everything yourself when you’re building a business, but it’s incredibly hard to actually do everything alone. She would also explore opportunities to hire and mentor people within the communities she serves.

More than 120 Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Turtle Island (Canada and the United States) were selected as Semi-Finalists in this year’s Pow Wow Pitch. Jada Belleau, Owner and Operator of Gookom’s Cabinet Mobile Refillery, is an entrepreneur from Garden River First Nation creating a more convenient way for people to reduce waste in their everyday lives. Through her mobile refillery, Jada brings refill options directly to customers, helping make lower-waste shopping more accessible while encouraging the reuse of containers and a shift away from single-use packaging.

In her pitch, Jada shared her plans to expand the reach of Gookom’s Cabinet Mobile Refillery. If she wins the $25,000 Grand Prize, she plans to use the funding to convert a high-roof cargo van into a mobile refillery, allowing her to travel further, operate year-round, and bring sustainable shopping options to more communities.
